Displaying fine lines are Giovanni’s matriarch, Jennie, who started the business in 1927, and daughter Maria who carries on the tradition today.

Giovanni's and Co LLC. is a small, family-owned and operated business that literally began in a suitcase in 1927.  The suitcase, filled with magnificent imported linens, laces and finery, was carried by founder, Jennie Martino DiGiovanni, a petite Italian lady, who sold her fine goods to the vacationing carriage trade in Atlantic City, Ventnor and Margate, New Jersey.

As the demand for her merchandise, taste and expertise grew, the suitcase was transformed into year-round boutiques located, first, on the Atlantic City Boardwalk, then in Linwood, New Jersey, and, now, in Margate City, New Jersey, under the direction of her daughter Maria Walters who shares her mother’s passion and continues the tradition serving third and fourth generation customers.

Giovanni’s tradition as a purveyor of fine linens and laces includes merchandise manufactured and imported from the finest companies, mills and embroidery capitals in the world.  In addition to formal and everyday, easy-care linens, Giovanni's boasts one of the largest collections of ladies’ and men’s handkerchiefs in the country, the primary focus of this website.

As you browse and click, prepare yourself for a treat.  You will find Giovanni’s handkerchiefs a perfect accessory for pocket or purse, for ladies or men, for that special gift that sustains a tradition of caring merchants and experts who serve to please while keeping alive the elegance and quality of the HANDKERCHIEF and  the time-tested fabrics and hand-work employed to make it a thing of beauty and a joy forever!

A family joke is that everybody in the family has worked in the business at some time –Aunt Mary, Aunt Rose, Aunt Anna, Aunt Theresa, cousins Victoria and Marianna—the list is endless.  Pictured here, along with Maria, are non-family members who worked for Giovanni’s in recent years.  Louise Lanza (deceased), Peggy Talarico, and Loretta Lewis.
A hand colored photograph presented to Jennie DiGiovanni in the early 40’s depicts a group of women hand embroidering elaborate tablecloths in Madeira, Portugal. It still hangs in our shop today and is often the subject of conversation.
